I had one that was paid for by insurance in 1997 or 98. I only used it off and on but eventually it got so beat up I just got rid of it. I think another bad spell is on it’s way but I’m not sure if Medicare would pay for another.

Medicare considers the lifespan of a power wheelchair 5 years. Therfore, they would cover one for you now. But, standards are much much higher than they were 10 years ago. There are TONS of things the doctor has to address, in a visit you have with him for a chair. The doctor used to just have to write a script and letter and that would be fine. Medicare basically wants you to be unable to walk at all, which the doctor would have to state in his medical records. Although, there are still suppliers out there that will fraudulently file for a power wheelchair without having the correct documentation. In turn, those types of suppliers are reposessing these wheelchairs when they get audited by Medicare, leaving you empty-handed. Just beware. If you visit your doctor and get your chair within a couple of days, I would be a little weary. Good luck!

Keep in mind I’m not laughing at them; I’m laughing at whats going on…

I’m sitting at a bar outside with some friends at night time when I eventually see two elderly handicap women coming up on the sidewalk. Now one in an electric wheelchair and one in a non-electric wheelchair and the one with the non-Electric Wheel Chair is holding on to the back of the one electric wheelchair and they are going full speed down the sidewalk, I mean like at least 4 MPH! Their hair was blowing all over the place because they were going so fast and almost ran into someone. It seemed like these two old ladies were rushing to get the last call meal at MCL. I ended up laughing harder than hell (at which point, I knew I was going to hell) but it was damn funny.

If you were in my shoes, would you laugh?

I suppose you didn’t hurt anyone by laughing. It sounds like you were laughing because they looked funny as opposed to laughing at their limitations, which would not have been the most tasteful thing to do. As someone who was in a wheelchair for 2 years, I know that some wheelchair activity looks quite comical, indeed.

Sitting in my little mobile home in the desert of Arizona I do not have much chance for first hand information as to the problems in America….. There are some small things I can see from day to day tho…..I am regulated in travel with a motorized wheel chair so I can’t go for long distances….For the last number of months I have found I have two barbers in my travel area…Niether one of them understands my language [english] so it is difficult to say the least as to how I want my hair cut….I also have a problem in ordering anything at a fast food place for the same reason….I am also disturbed to no end when I look at a billboard in a different language than mine….And the fact that anything from the government must be printed twice to support the other language….And I do not even wqnt to discuss haveing to press 1 on my phone to speak my language [english] But these are very minor things…But when my country spends 10 million dollars a day on some war and spends 700 billion dollars on some bail out and spends millions of dollars on other things and then I find America is borrowing these monies from other nations,,,this scares me. This tells me we are broke,,we have no more monies….All I know is if I had to run my own house and home like that I would be concidered broke. And if I went to any lender of monies they wouldn’t give me the time of day….They certainly wouldn’t offer me a place at the dineing table…..

I’m sorry, you need to get out more. Move your house; after all, it IS a mobile home.
No, america is not broke. But it it in debt.

i whant to send an electric wheelchair to my grandmother in mexico but dont know how to get it there. It weighs around 300lbs . Anyone know ??

South express are very good,.

I have an Electric Wheel Chair (hoveround) it is fairly heavy I imagine. I need to fly to north carolina and want to bring it. I will use my manual during the flight rather than have them load and reload the electric. How much will this cost?

it will cost nothing… there is no charge for assistive devices.

**make sure the battery is disconnected, that is the only requirement.
